Description

Make an impact on the community. Work with a team of smart, collaborative colleagues.

WFAE, the leading public media newsroom in the Charlotte region, seeks a senior editor of news and planning to help shape our daily multiplatform reporting and coordinate short-term and long-term newsroom coverage. In this role, you will be working with a team of journalists and other media professionals who are passionate about creating journalism that informs, engages and inspires our increasingly diverse local community.

The senior editor of news and planning reports to our news director. This newsroom leader must ensure pieces are exceptionally written and well-produced and reflect the diversity of voices in our region. The senior editor will work closely with our show teams (Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Weekend Edition) to determine the daily local lineup in consultation with the news and programming director. In addition, the senior editor will coordinate online coverage with our digital director. The senior editor will be required to occasionally report and write articles on deadline.

In addition, the senior editor of news and planning will be responsible for coordinating schedules, vacations, rotations of special coverage, or evening and weekend assignments in consultation with the news director.  This person will assist with coordinating collaborative projects across WFAE. The senior editor will also assist with newsroom onboarding –  documenting process and workflow for new employees – and training.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working with a variety of editing and publishing tools, be versed in audience and community engagement, and be as willing to teach as they are to learn.

WFAE is an innovative, multiplatform newsroom and, as such, we are looking for candidates who want to redefine how we serve, reach and connect with audiences through broadcast, online, and on-demand platforms as well as in person.

As a newsroom, we work collaboratively to achieve goals, and we support each other. We are eager to speak to candidates who are creative, possess a can-do attitude, and who value and champion diversity, inclusivity and equity in their own approach to leading teams and covering the community.
