St. Louis Public Radio | 90.7 KWMU, St. Louis’ NPR station, is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and highly organized Special Events Director to produce events from conception to completion. The ideal candidate will be able to provide outstanding customer service and organize memorable and financially successful events. They’ll work well on deadline and be an excellent communicator and planner. The abilities to multitask, prioritize, and give attention to detail are essential. The Special Events Director works with staff across the organization, board members, and volunteers to coordinate all aspects of myriad events such as performances, live broadcasts, galas, donor parties and other activities designed to raise funds, reach new audiences and deepen engagement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development, planning, execution and post-production of events and outreach activities to meet revenue goals.
  • Developing revenue strategies that could include developing sponsorship or grant proposals, seeking donations and working with board members.
  • Creating seamless, memorable and enjoyable experiences for event patrons through effective leadership. Establishing the strategic direction of special events, including creating annual plans with corresponding budgets and timelines.
  • Managing budget for events including reviewing and tracking expenses and revenue, contracts and invoices. Effectively creating, managing, and monitoring event records, invitation lists, reservations and ticketing, donor information and other database records.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with event partners, sponsors and others.
  • Possessing a strong vision for design elements such as event themes and promotional materials.
  • Leading collaboration with staff on event concepts, design, production, and marketing.
  • Managing logistics, arranging travel, and negotiating costs and services with vendors and performers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven track record of generating revenue from events or other fundraising.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation and customer service skills.
  • Experience in marketing events to a wide variety of people, including integrating digital marketing, email, social media into event planning.
  • Strong budget management, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and initiative.
  • Experience working with board members and volunteers.
  • Ability to work in spreadsheets, databases, donor and industry software and report information effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Forward-thinker, who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions.
  • Knowledge of and appreciation for public radio a plus.
