The Opportunity

We are actively seeking dynamic and diverse team member to join us in the role of Systems Administrator in Wixom, MI.

The Systems Administrator is responsible for the IT equipment and user services including personal computers (desktops, laptops), computer configuration and operations, network wiring to desktops, internal wireless systems, user network access, and email services. The Systems Administrator works closely with the IT Manager and the VP of Engineering and other management staff or service providers in carrying out IT support operations of the Station.

Essential Functions

  • Installs, configures, and upgrades operating systems and software
  • Installs, assembles, and configures computers, monitors, network infrastructure and peripherals such as printers, scanners, and related hardware; pulls cables and rewires or directs the rewiring of cables as required for new installations and office reconfiguration
  • Troubleshoots problems with computer systems, including troubleshooting hardware and software, e-mail, network, and peripheral equipment problems; makes repairs and corrections if required
  • Makes hardware and software acquisition recommendations including helping users assess computing needs and providing justification for new equipment and services
  • Assists in instructing station staff in the use of standard business and administrative software, such as word processing and spreadsheets; provides instruction or documentation where required
  • Assists with the planning, design, research, and acquisition of new or upgraded hardware and software systems; maintains current knowledge of hardware, software and network technology and recommends modifications as necessary
  • Assists engineering with Broadcast IT needs as required
  • Assists digital team with web server and development support for all DETF websites including WordPress maintenance such as upgrades for CMS or third-party plug-ins or current technology
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level

Skills

  • Ability to analyze problems, research alternative solutions, and implement prompt corrective actions
  • Proficient knowledge of computer hardware, software and peripherals such as servers, monitors, cables, network systems, printers, plotters, wireless routers, wireless networks and smart phone integration
  • Proficient knowledge of procedures for installing, configuring, upgrading, troubleshooting, and repairing applicable software, hardware and peripherals; and techniques for explaining technical concepts and procedures to non-technical users
  • Knowledge of current technology related to station applications, networks and telecommunications and the equipment and software required to maximize system support

Qualifications

Two years of college-level courses in computer science, information technology or a related field, and two years of general computer installation, maintenance, and repair experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above.

  • Office 365 administration experience
  • CompTia A+ Certification preferred
  • Microsoft MCP Certification preferred
  • Powershell scripting
  • WAN routing experience
  • Experience working in a Windows environment
  • Exchange server experience a plus
  • MAC experience a plus

This role will require local travel to respond to IT needs and troubleshooting at our various metro-Detroit locations.

Physical Demands

Individual must be able to type and sit behind a desk for extended periods of time and periodically stand for extends periods of time.
