Overview

WMHT Educational Telecommunications, a full service public media company operating public television and radio stations serving Eastern New York and Western New England seeks an experienced professional to lead its revenue development efforts. Reporting to the President and CEO, the successful candidate will plan and execute an integrated fundraising effort including membership and leadership giving from individuals, planned giving, on-air fundraising, foundation and government relations and corporate support. As a senior member of the management team, the VP plays an important role in strategic and financial planning and works closely with WMHT Trustees and community leaders as well as national public media organizations.

Job Responsibilities

Supervise Membership Department including acquisition, retention, additional giving and sustainer giving. Oversee on-air fundraising programs on television and radio. Establish and monitor appropriate goals and manage Membership Department team. Review existing activities and analyze results to ensure best practice and develop new strategies for membership development.

Oversee Major and Planned Giving Programs including prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. Establish and monitor appropriate goals. Interact with Trustees and volunteers as appropriate. Build and maintain relationship with key donors and prospective donors.

Supervise Corporate Support Department developing underwriting revenue for broadcast, program production and community and educational programs. Develop appropriate goals and compensation strategies for members of the Corporate Support Department. Ensure adherence to FCC guidelines and company policies.

Seek project funding as appropriate from Foundation and Government sources. Develop fundraising strategies for new initiatives and programs.

Participate as a member of the Station Senior Management in Strategic Planning process. Monitor department progress against approved plan.

Develop departmental budgets and maintain appropriate financial and administrative controls to ensure donor privacy and regulatory compliance.

Act as an activate and visible spokesperson for WMHT within the local community and within the public media community. Maintain strong relationships with community partners and national organizations.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have proven track record in leading a multifaceted development effort in a creative environment. He or she will possess excellent communications skills, an entrepreneurial spirit, a deep commitment to community, and demonstrated skills in data analysis planning. The ability to assemble, motivate and lead a staff in the design, implementation, and ongoing review of fundraising programs in a rapidly changing environment is imperative as is the desire to play an active and visible role in the community. A bachelors’ degree and seven or more years of relevant experience is required.
