About Us:

Friends of South Dakota Public Broadcasting (Friends) is the 501c3 charitable fundraising and sales arm of South Dakota Public Broadcasting. SDPB, licensed to the State of South Dakota, is a public, statewide, organization. SDPB provides news, information, entertainment and music programming to our audience, located in South Dakota and surrounding states through eleven non-commercial, public radio stations, and nine non-commercial, public television stations. 98% of the households in the state of South Dakota receive SDPB’s radio and television signal free of charge.

 

Summary:

A significant portion of the funding for South Dakota Public Broadcasting comes directly from

SDPB’s corporate partners through underwriting support and charitable contributions. The Vice President of Corporate Partnerships (VPCP) is Sioux Falls based, maintaining and establishing contact with key decision-makers at corporations, advertising agencies, businesses and non-profit organizations. This blended sales-focused and administrative position is responsible for strategy, direction and growth of the sales team of three persons, including the VPCP.

 

The VPCP will regularly attend and participate in community events as well as plan, manage and execute donor cultivation and stewardship events designed to increase awareness of and support for SDPB. This position is an exempt, full-time position, with a base/commission salary and is based in Sioux Falls, SD.

 

Essential Job Functions:

As the lead of the underwriting team, the VP of Corporate Partnerships has the primary responsibility of building and strengthening of relationships within the Underwriting department and working with the Friends Executive Director to craft policy and goals for the Friends team. Must live in and be willing to travel the State of South Dakota.

 

Goals:            

  • Create a more sales-oriented culture within the Underwriting Department that includes:
    • Lead the transition to a Customer Relationship Management tool
    • Establish Sales Goals and Accountability Metrics
  • Create and implement a plan to grow underwriting revenue by a third over a three-to-five-year period
  • Create a path for digital sponsorships on all digital SDPB properties

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Supervision of personnel within the Underwriting Department
  • Work directly with the SDPB Network Continuity Department to develop a plan that will grow underwriting profit to be delivered to the SDPB Network
  • Present proposals based on pricing and packages available;

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be highly self-motivated and able to work independently as well as in a team atmosphere;
  • Skilled in sales, with ability to succeed in meeting sales goals;
  • Ability to engage prospective clients and translate their needs to internal production staff to create desirable underwriting spots;
  • Knowledge of the community and the ability to secure individual underwriting contracts on a tactical level as well as those of a strategic level;
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail;
  • Computer skills to create spreadsheets and operate a CRM tool;
  • Communicate effectively in person and remotely;
  • Manage multiple accounts, prioritize time and projects;
  • Meet deadlines and sales goals;
  • Follow FCC regulations and organizational policies as required;
  • Willing and able to work evenings, weekends and extra hours during peak times as required;
  • Knowledge of PBS and/or NPR programming.

 

Education and Qualification:

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of four years’ experience in sales (media sales is preferred), advertising, and/or fundraising. Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and insurance coverage.

 

Compensation:

Salary base, commensurate with experience plus commission structure. A complete benefits package including Health Insurance and 401(k) retirement plans are available.
