WUNC Community Event Producer – Temporary
North Carolina Public Radio WUNC, Chapel Hill
North Carolina Public Radio WUNC, the public radio station licensed to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is hiring a temporary Community Event Producer.
WUNC, a statewide public radio network, is looking to develop and deepen relationships with communities across North Carolina through event production, partnerships/sponsorships and hosting.
The ideal candidate pays painstaking attention to detail and can work collaboratively across departments to secure needs for executing engaging events, both in-person and in virtual spaces – from town hall conversations to trivia nights to music performances. The producer will be tasked with thinking creatively about how to make WUNC’s events stand out and make others’ visions come to life while prioritizing communities that are underrepresented in WUNC’s core audience.
The ideal candidate also has experience with digital marketing and promotion of events on social media, in newsletters and other platforms. The community event producer will work closely with the Content Director, the Director of New Talent and Community Partnerships and the Community Outreach Committee to approach potential community partners and make recommendations for audience engagement in alignment with WUNC’s strategic plan, mission and vision.
The successful candidate is able to quickly grasp local politics, issues and ideas and have an enterprising mind for how to authentically captivate a diversity of audiences through collaboration and conversation.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; ORequivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

- Exceptional written and oral communication skills
- Creativity and initiative
- Expertise in researching topics and preparing speakers
- Demonstrated ability to plan ahead, project manage and meet deadlines, working with materials from a variety of sources and collaborators
- Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues effectively and collaboratively
- Demonstrated ability to include diverse stories and participants in programming
- An understanding of a variety of online platforms
- Experience with writing scripts, social media posts, press releases and promotional copy
