Aspen Public Radio is a 44-year-old public media organization serving the vibrant Roaring Fork and Colorado River valleys, nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. We seek an experienced public radio reporter/host to join our news team as the daily host/anchor for “All Things Considered” and to serve as associate editor at Aspen Public Radio in Aspen, CO.

Aspen Public Radio’s mission is to support, nourish, and enrich our community by providing informative, entertaining, and educational radio and digital programming in a reliable and professional manner. Our community is home to many organizations and internationally renowned festivals, including The Aspen Institute, Ideas Festival, Aspen Music Festival and School, Aspen Film festivals, Rocky Mountain Institute, Aspen Center for Environmental Studies, and The Wheeler Opera House. The valley features gourmet dining, art galleries, an airport, and hundreds of miles of hiking, biking, climbing, skiing, kayaking, rafting and world-class fly fishing, as well as one of the most photographed parts of the country: the mountain peaks of Maroon Bells. Our service area is Aspen to Glenwood Springs; Rifle to Eagle.

Our culture is friendly and familiar, but we are professional broadcasters with high standards, telling character-driven stories with a strong standard of accuracy, often providing context to complex issues inherent to the Mountain West.

Who We Are Looking For:

We are seeking to hire an experienced broadcast journalist with a strong skill set that includes reporting, writing, producing, and anchoring. We are looking for someone who, above all, is understanding of what it takes to be a good reporter and a team player. We also want you to be a strong writer, have solid broadcast production skills, and be comfortable delivering live newscasts and conducting live interviews on the air. As host/anchor, you’ll be responsible for delivering newscasts, alongside local and regional features during “All Things Considered” Monday through Friday. As associate editor, you will support our News Director with daily editing responsibilities for both radio and web, working closely with our extended team of reporters, which includes three full-time reporters and three reporters who work in conjunction with other news outlets in our region.

This broadcast journalist will join a team responsible for advancing the power of radio to tell meaningful stories. You are a multitasker, with the ability to show up strong on the air each day, create an attractive and supportive environment for the entire reporting team, and follow your reporting passion as time allows. You care deeply about connecting with our unique community in a way that continually improves our public service to our community’s diverse stakeholders.

As a small station, every member of our news team is required to support evening production duties (one day per week), weekend coverage (approx. once a month), and participate in breaking news coverage.

Duties:
Anchor “All Things Considered” each weekday
Edit radio and digital content alongside our news director
Work with the news director and regional NPR editors to nationalize local stories
Serve as local show producer for Morning Edition and All Things Considered (approx.once a week)
Maintain strong relationships with partner newsrooms
Participate in the production of live events
Produce high-quality, accurate, and ethical reporting, as time allows
Participate in training and workshops to continue honing your craft and skills
Attend donor and station events and participate in on-air fundraising drives

Required Qualifications:
Solid experience in radio reporting, audio editing and production, and on-air anchoring
Deep knowledge of the ethics and practices of journalism, including AP and NPR styles
Excellent writing and editing skills
Strong time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines on a regular basis
Well-practiced collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications:
Understanding of the purpose and mission of public broadcasting
Familiarity with the Western Colorado region
Professionally fluent in Spanish
Experience working within DEI initiatives

This is a full-time salaried position reporting to the Aspen Public Radio news director, requiring availability for day, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
