After growing up in Seattle and Austin, and winning the Texas Young Playwrights Festival, Gavin Dahl started producing college radio at KVRX Austin. His first paid radio gig was for Seattle’s Progressive Talk, AM 1090, which was an Air America Radio affiliate. Soon after he served as production director and music director at fiercely independent KAOS Olympia. After graduation, he went on to serve as programming coordinator at KRBX Boise, community broadcast coordinator for Common Frequency in Davis, news director at KYRS Spokane and station liaison at Alternative Radio in Boulder. He served three years on the board of directors at KGNU Denver/Boulder. He has been a Free Speech TV correspondent and contributor to Boulder Weekly. His writing has also been published by The Raw Story, Radio Survivor, Boise Weekly, Common Dreams and the Austin American Statesman. Before leaving Denver, he worked at the Open Media Foundation, building relationships with local governments committed to transparency. During the legislative session, he was a producer and director for the Colorado Channel. Then he spent four years at KDNK, first as news director and then as general manager from 2017-2020. Gavin served as president of the board of directors for the Rocky Mountain Community Radio Network, then as treasurer. Next, he worked two years as News Director & Morning Edition Host at KVNF Mountain Grown Public Radio, based at Studio M in Montrose. Now Gavin is the executive director of KRCL community radio in Salt Lake City.
