Description
WMFE, a growing public media organization, is hiring an Assistant Director of Development to assist with leading and managing the station’s development and membership programs.
The Assistant Director of Development will be an integral member of the WMFE leadership team and will be responsible for managing a comprehensive donor program for individual and sustaining members. In this role, you will work with leadership and across the organization, directly with donors, and external vendors, utilizing an exceptional ability to organize, prioritize, and steward our donors. Your role serves at the cross-section of communication, solicitation, stewardship, and events, primarily working to enhance the donor experience and inspire support. It offers a unique opportunity to combine creativity with project and process management in a highly collaborative, donor-centric environment.
The Assistant Director of Development’s responsibilities includes managing the WMFE individual and sustainer programs monthly solicitation letters, managing donor communication, leading on-air and year-round fundraising initiatives i.e., planned gifts, major giving, vehicle donation, event management, and grant writing. This position requires an individual who is passionate about donors, data, self-motivated, analytical, resourceful, collaborative, and extremely detail oriented.
WMFE is the primary source of NPR and local programming from Central Florida to the Atlantic coast, through two radio broadcast signals (WMFE/WMFV), social media, podcasts and the web. WMFE serves listeners throughout the three metro counties of Orlando, as well as the outer areas of Central Florida which include Daytona Beach, Deland, the Space Coast, and The Villages. What You’ll Do:
- Develop and execute annual fundraising plan to increase contributions and maintain stewardship of WMFE individual members and sustainers.
- Manage direct mail, on-air & digital fundraising, vehicle donation program, and individual member program.
- Work collaboratively with Major Gifts Manager to help identify and move mid-level donors to major giving program.
- Assist in the identification, planning and soliciting of major donors to fund priority special project initiatives for WMFE Gift Planning staff to identify and strategically cultivate planned giving donors and prospects.
- Work collaboratively with the leadership team, participate in and produce case development for initiative funding and to set fundraising goals and objectives.
- Identify and write grant proposals for identified station priorities; prepare and present proposals; identify, track and report on deliverables for grant-funded projects.
- Lead, plan and participate in station donor events locally and regionally as needed.
- Supervise administrative support, volunteers and contractors as needed.
- Manage a budget and maintain appropriate electronic documentation on a timely basis, including tracking and contact reports. Provide regular reports on fundraising results to WMFE leadership.
- Work closely with colleagues across the station, of all different backgrounds and skills. Must have demonstrated ability to work well within a team and uphold and further WMFE’s mission to provide a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace.
What You’ll Need:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or Nonprofit Management is required.
- 3-5 years in fundraising, philanthropy, or nonprofit management.
- Priority given to those with public media experience.
- Experience in Lifecycle/CRM Marketing.
- Experience and proficiency in fundraising and donor management.
- Ability to work in a team environment, while also displaying individual initiative.
- Knowledgeable of various computer hardware and software including word processing, database, and spreadsheet functions; MS Office knowledge is required, Raiser’s Edge NXT, Luminate Online, and Constant Contact.
- Ability to work well on multiple, simultaneous projects under pressure with differing deadlines.
- The individual should be energetic, self-directed and assertive, but also flexible, creative and understanding.
- Communication and interpersonal skills must be at the highest possible level; Ability to interact effectively with staff at all levels, donors, volunteers, as well as the public.
