The Opportunity
We are actively seeking dynamic and diverse team member to join us in the role of Engagement Specialist in Wixom, MI.
The Engagement Specialist supports the engagement initiatives of the Michigan Learning Channel, both statewide and in Detroit in coordination and collaboration with the DPTV Education team. This role will coordinate and execute engagement activities with families, public and private school teachers, and schools across Southeast Michigan. The Engagement Specialist advocates for the use of the channel by educators, families, and students, and collects feedback and suggestions for improving the service.
Essential Functions
- Build sustained relationships with teachers, parents, and schools to introduce them to the Michigan Learning Channel and encourage the use of the channel and its library of content at home and in the classroom to supplement learning
- Be current and knowledgeable about trends in education and strategic initiatives being implemented by teachers and schools, such as culturally responsive teaching, project-based learning, and trauma-informed care.
- Attend educational conferences, manning a Michigan Learning Channel display table when required, or presenting to groups of educators and stakeholders of various sizes and roles
- Provide professional learning content to teachers and other school personnel for a better understanding of the resources and opportunities to learn provided by the channel
- Coordinate electronic communications to families and educators within the station’s viewing area about Michigan Learning Channel programming, digital resources, special events, and trainings
- Collect testimonials and best practices on how educators are using the channel
- Assist in the planning and execution of special events and trainings to improve usage of the Michigan Learning Channel
- Provide input on the creation or acquisition of new content for the Michigan Learning Channel, based on their own classroom experience and feedback from relationships in the community
- Align promotional campaigns with the school calendar, locally important events, as well as opportunities tied to specialized audiences
- Participate in on-air messaging, social media, and other platforms to improve communication among parents, teachers, and schools statewide
- Track relationships with school districts, ISD’s and RESAs, and with teachers within the station’s viewing area, entering data into the Michigan Learning Channels CRM system and pulling periodic reports on activities both locally and statewide
- Participate in scheduled trainings and consultations with the Michigan Learning Channel staff
- Order materials, collect data, and other duties as assigned.
Skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with experience in presenting to education professionals and conducting professional learning
- An outgoing personality that genuinely enjoys meeting with people and building a relationship
- Demonstrated experience and enthusiasm for working alongside diverse communities.
- Ability to manage time and resources effectively
- Excellent organizational ability with strong attention to details
- Excellent follow up skills
- Able to provide excellent customer service
- Ability to interact and work in a team environment
Qualifications
- Experience as a classroom teacher, parent leader, or other role within education
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel
- Experience or strong interest in the use of media in the classroom
- Experience conducting teacher trainings, PTA or PTO meetings, or facilitating group discussions
- Able to draft strong and impactful presentations in PowerPoint
Physical Demands
Individual must be able to
- Type, and sit behind a desk for extended periods of time
- Look at video, computer screens, printed documents
- Be able to engage with large numbers of people in a conference setting or on Zoom-type platforms
- Drive to and attend meetings across a large geographic area in variable weather conditions
- Occasional lifting of boxes and materials weighing up to 30 pounds
- Occasionally travel overnight for conferences and meetings
Work Environment
Individual is exposed to a typical office setting with computer equipment and a TV studio or on-location site with some related business travel both within the US and internationally.
