Job Description
Grants and Gifts Officer serves as a development/community investment team member in developing and writing grant proposals to foundations, private and corporate organization, and government agencies in order to obtain funding for WUCF activities, and works in cooperation with Major Gift Officer to steward major donors and secures gifts from prospects in order to generate financial support for WUCF.
GRANTS ACTIVITIES: 60%
Creates a strategic grants plan aligned with the overall direction for WUCF activities in collaboration with leadership team.
Responsible for writing, developing and implementing grant proposals with input from affected functional areas in WUCF. Coordination typically includes the development and writing of grant proposals, supervising grant approval process and working with team members in post-award effort, and works with Finance and Administration in WUCF on compliance. Ensures all deadlines are met.
Manages grant life-cycle communications with related constituencies, follows up with funding agencies and Finance and Administration staff as necessary.
Researches information and data necessary for grants and reporting.
Researches new funding opportunities available through local, state, and federal government agencies, as well as through private and corporate foundations.
Reads and interprets requests for proposals and funding guidelines from government agencies and foundations to determine if appropriate for college and how best to respond and comply.
Coordinates with the Research Foundation, Office of Research, and UCF Foundation for proposal submission and award management.
Monitors outstanding grant proposals. Follows up with funding agency as necessary.
Maintains necessary records, files, reports, databases, and resource materials pertinent to Grants Office activities.
Coordinates receipt of awards and contract documentation and prepares and submits scheduled and special reports required by the grant. Reporting to include tracking and fulfilling any grant reports due after grant completion, i.e. yearly status update or equipment inventory updates.
Works with Finance and Administration in finalizing grant budgets for correct calculation of expenditure categories such as salaries, percent of effort, salary adjustment increases, fringe benefits, indirect costs, materials, and equipment.
Interpret sponsor proposal guidelines and regulations to ensure administration and financial compliance with proposal submissions and award terms and conditions.
DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES: 40%
Supports the Director of Development and the Major Gifts Officer by managing list of individuals or groups who have propensity to give in order to qualify candidates for cultivation efforts.
Develops compelling case for support by involving other departments, staff, and community groups to communicate the rationale for supporting the organization’s fundraising program.
Ask for and secure gifts from prospects in order to generate financial support for WUCF.
Prepares donor centric solicitation materials in order to influence and facilitate informed gift decisions.
Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.
Additional Minimum Requirements
Preferences
Prefer: At least two years of grant writing experience, particularly for state and federal level grants.
Prefer: Some experience with prospect research, annual giving, donor relations and/or major gifts.
