KUOW Puget Sound Public Radio is Seattle’s NPR news station. We are an independent, nonprofit news organization producing award-winning journalism, podcasts and events in service to the 3.9 million people in our coverage area. As a self-sustaining service of the University of Washington, our mission is to create and serve a more informed public.
KUOW has an exciting opportunity for a Temporary, Hourly Graphic Designer. Reporting to the Marketing Communications Manager, this role will be instrumental in sharing KUOW’s mission and work through the creation of compelling visuals across multiple channels and mediums, from Instagram posts to printed postcards. The ideal candidate will have the ability to deliver clean, web- and print-ready designs based on existing style guides and brand guidelines in a fast-paced production environment. This position requires strong organizational skills, web and pre-press expertise, intrinsic design ability, typographic skills, and acute attention to detail. The ability to manage multiple projects and communicate with key stakeholders is also essential.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Taking direction from multiple team members and fielding original creative requests as well as supporting production work.
• Create print collateral from brand style guide including, but not limited to posters, postcards, merchandise, brochures, one-sheets, experiential pieces, stickers, pins, and books.
• Design and produce social media collateral for KUOW’s Instagram, YouTube and Facebook accounts, including light motion design and cinemograph design.
• Produce daily Instagram posts from news stories, including design, typography, layout, captioning and ADA best practices.
• Developing clean and effective graphic templates for web, live events and email newsletters as needed.
• Fulfill multiple project requests while meeting tight deadlines.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
• One year of applicable college-level training in graphics design, or equivalent art school training and one year of experience as a Graphic Illustrator
• OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
• OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Passion for KUOW’s mission to create and serve a more informed public
• Commitment to racial equity and ability to work with diverse teams
PREFERENCE FOR CANDIDATES WITH:
•Two years of experience as a Graphic Designer
• Excellent Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Canva skills
• Proficiency (or ability to quickly learn) Premiere Pro, After Effects, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Headliner and other software as needed
• Excellent attention to detail
• Strong communication skills
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently
