Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for Morning Edition Host for KUNR.  The main function of the Morning Edition Host is ensuring a smooth, consistent radio broadcast during the assigned on-air shift, which includes preparing and delivering newscasts.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Preparing, gathering and executing news content during assigned shifts by checking local, national, and worldwide news sources,
  • Records and edits promotional announcements, interviews and other material,
  • Participate in fundraising drives, including on-air “pitching,” along with planning and coordination of special programs; serve as a board operator for fundraising drives
  • Provide editing and editorial feedback for news team and other staff as necessary
  • Pitch story ideas to news department
  • Initiate discussions with the Content Director or General Manager on suggestions for improving station programming, content, execution or sound of the station

 

Required Qualifications

High School Graduation with five (5) years of related work experience; OR

Associate’s Degree with four (4) years of related work experience; OR

Bachelor’s Degree with three (3) years of related work experience; OR

Master’s Degree with two (2) years of related work experience

Related Experience: On-air broadcasting, news collection, reporting

 

Compensation Grade

This is full-time Administrative Faculty – Compensation Grade B

Grants-in-aid

With a committed staff of 20, KUNR Public Radio punches well above its weight. Our journalists have won numerous recent Murrow and PMJA awards, in addition to competitive national grants from StoryCorps, ONA, Facebook and AIR for innovative programming and engagement initiatives. KUNR is based at the University of Nevada, Reno and is a unit of UNR’s Reynolds School of Journalism. The station leverages the Reynolds School’s award-winning Noticiero Móvil bilingual news service and other startups to provide more content to the community and to help train the next generation of journalists.
