KUNR Public Radio (KUNR-FM) in sunny Reno, NV is seeking a public radio reporter to join our newsroom as the station reporter assigned to the Mountain West News Bureau. The MWNB is a collaboration of several public radio stations in various Rocky Mountain states covering regional issues impacting the American West, including topics such as wildlife, the environment, health, social justice, and politics. The MWNB is a Regional Journalism Collaboration with support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and many of the bureau’s stories are aired on nationally syndicated programs.
This reporter is responsible for filing daily spot news and enterprise features that appeal to listeners across Nevada, Montana, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and New Mexico. Reporting will be done under the supervision of a remote editor, who manages the entire news bureau, and in collaboration with reporters from the other partnering stations. This reporter must be willing and able to regularly travel to different parts of Nevada for story assignments. They will also work with KUNR’s news director and other staff members to help with duties related to the station’s larger mission, such as participating in community events or station pledge drives.

The ideal candidate will have: a bachelor’s degree from a regionally-accredited institution and at least one year of radio news reporting or related journalism experience; work samples reflecting excellent broadcast and digital storytelling; strong interviewing and audio production skills. Also helpful: being bilingual in English and Spanish, being able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and being able to learn new skills quickly.
