Description
The Opportunity
Here’s a fascinating mission: Oversee, assist and amplify the production of community-focused journalism from all parts of the U.S. during the upcoming election. For this CPB-funded project, “Election 2020: Listening to America,” we’re looking for a Senior Editor who understands the public media system and, in particular, the challenges of working collaboratively with multiple newsrooms at once. This individual must be flexible, but also committed to the highest journalistic standards. Experience incorporating community perspectives would be particularly helpful.
This experienced editor will manage all editorial production associated with the Election 2020 project. She/he will support, guide, coordinate, edit and overcome challenges in the service of bringing the voices and perspectives of more Americans into election coverage produced by public media.
Election 2020: Listening to America is a new grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The 18-month, $1.9 million grant will support a new level of collaboration among public radio stations to cover the 2020 elections. The project is led by KCUR 89.3, the NPR affiliate in Kansas City, where the central team is located. KCUR’s Donna Vestal is the Managing Director of Election 2020. KCUR is hiring six full-time staff to be a part of the central staff. For the right candidate, we are open to a remote workplace. This position is limited duration, 12-18 months.
