Application Deadline: Monday, Oct 24, 2022
Description
Senior Reporter / Managing Editor
KHOL/Jackson Hole Community Radio in Jackson, Wyoming, has an immediate opening for a senior reporter. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of an invigorated, growing public media organization in one of the most beautiful places in the country.
People are indeed drawn to Jackson Hole for the area’s scenic charm and recreational opportunities, but residents are also deeply civically engaged. Teton County voter turnout hovers around 96%, and listeners demand context, nuance and perspective when it comes to the area’s pressing issues—a historic housing crisis, the growing pains of a conservation mecca reliant on a tourism-based economy, massive economic inequality, climate change and marginalized populations fighting for a seat at the table, just to name a few.
The senior reporter/managing editor will lead KHOL’s award-winning news coverage through a combination of reporting, editing and producing creative and informative radio and digital stories. They will manage the reporting, editing and production of a daily four-minute newscast, report and edit in-depth feature stories and immersive interviews, and contribute to the production of station podcasts, including our flagship show Jackson Unpacked. The senior reporter/managing editor will also oversee and edit all stories produced by KHOL’s staff reporter and freelancers. This position is ideal for an experienced radio reporter looking to gain experience in editing and management!
Over the past few years, KHOL has grown from a nearly entirely volunteer-run music station to an affiliate of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting with a staff of five. Our newsroom is small but mighty: The station was recently awarded its first-ever Regional Edward R. Murrow Award and KHOL reporters regularly file to the statewide NPR affiliate Wyoming Public Media, the NPR newscast and Rocky Mountain Community Radio (RMCR) collaborative. Our primary coverage area is western Wyoming and eastern Idaho.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
